Right I just figured maybe they’d know how to request a tech that’s more competent with cable card installs. Does anybody know whether the Cisco STA does indeed only support 4 tuners, or did the install tech configure the tuning adapter incorrectly?

These tuning adapters are very finicky and they don’t seem to like the MoCA signals. That isn’t a bad idea. That’s probably going to be for just pairing it but L-Charter doesn’t have a dedicated Cable card team and phone support can’t do anything regarding firmware on the TA, they’ll either send a tech out or refer you to a local office to swap it.

If we’ve got any nits to pick with our experience, it’d be the sheer presence of yet another box in our AV setup — consider what programming a Tuning Adapter will open up before you decide you absolutely must have one. I noticed a message on my tivo last night stating that the tuning adapter provided by spectrum only supported 4 tuners, and therefore the tivo would only be able to use 4 of its six tuners.

While the TiVo will receive non-SDV channels even when the adapter is turned off, it does require about 30 seconds to re-tune. For our troubles, we got a Cisco Scientific Atlanta STA that the Cox representative made abundantly clear was free only as long as we stayed a customer. Thank you all for your suggestions! Even if you’re not using MoCA, you should still probably use the 2-way splitter because the RF passthrough on the tuning adapters is apparently not very good.
