Gene Collins Replied on July 2, Hi Everyone, I was able to figure out the problem on Windows 8 and how to solve it. I had the simillar issue. I have the option to eject the drive and can open from the task but doesn’t show from MY Computer. After that, go to WD website and get the universal frimware updater.
I am having same problem here with two 2TB WD passport drives. Moreover, the system is making a sound that it has found a new hardware but no results are being displayed.

Apparently, the problem is with the firmware of WD which needs an update, Now to update, you have to connect your hard wc to a Windows 7 PC, download the new firmware from WD website and run it.
I have had the since my last Dell which wasn’t on Windows 8.

That is why I wanted to write my solution. I got a new computer and it as worked fine until tonight.
The Windows 8 system only can identify the first one. Thanks for marking this as the answer. Apparently this fix was only temporary, or the drive worked well by happenstance.
